Our 10-Step Process
Upstate Web Works follows a simple
10-step process to get a Web site up and running.
-
Initial Quotation
After understanding your basic needs, Upstate Web Works will
prepare a quotation letter that will also outline the elements to be included in
your site. All quotations are valid for thirty (30) days.
Agreement
In the interests of all parties, Upstate Web Works requires each
client to sign a Terms & Conditions of Agreement prior to the start of any project.
This agreement outlines the rights and responsibilities of both UWW and the
client.
Web Design Consultation
Should you choose Upstate Web Works for your project, we will
schedule a either a face-to-face or telephone consultation with you. It is our policy to try to schedule
face-to-face meetings when possible. If travel is required beyond a 10-mile radius of the Upstate Web
Works office, the client will be responsible for mileage costs. During this session, the following will be
addressed:
▪ Domain name options (Web addresses)
▪ Web hosting needs
▪ Your target audience
▪ Web site content
▪ Special logos, fonts or images
▪ Design preferences
▪ E-mail needs
▪ Search engine optimization (efforts to improve "searchability" of your Web site)
▪ Future Web editing needs
▪ Schedule for completion
Domain Name
Upstate Web Works advises clients to secure preferred domain names as soon as possible.
If a domain name is not already taken, it can be purchased on a renewable, year-to-year basis
for around $10-$15. While UWW gladly assists with domain name selection and registration, clients
should be aware that domain name services are third party providers with whom they should be
prepared to deal directly.
Content Development
You know your business or organization better than anyone, so Upstate Web Works requires clients to
prepare most of the written text for their Web sites. UWW, however, is happy to help with editing that
may improve "searchability" or design. Content information can generally be delivered to UWW
by e-mail or U.S. mail.
Draft Review
The draft review period is outlined in the signed
Terms
and Agreement document prior to the start of the project. Upstate Web Works will prepare a draft of
your Web site that you will be able to view online. If you have any concerns or additions for your site,
you should tell us about them during the draft review. Any major changes requested to the site after
the client has approved the final draft will be billed accordingly.
Web Hosting & E-Mail
During the development process, Upstate Web Works helps clients locate appropriate Web hosting providers;
once a project is launched, it is the hosting company that provides space for your site on the World Wide Web
and electronic mail. While UWW gladly assists with set-up, clients should be aware that Web hosting companies
are third party providers with whom they should be prepared to deal directly.
Web Site Launch
The time has come for your site to go live! We upload your Web site to its "little plot of cyberspace."
Search Engine Submissions
Once a site is launched, Upstate Web Works will register it with a limited number of free search engines. While UWW
will make every effort to ensure that your site is "search-engine friendly," we cannot guarantee that
search engines will either accept your site or rank your site high in search results. Clients should also realize that
it can take as much as 4-6 weeks for some search engines to display sites in their results lists.
Start-Up Packet
Each Upstate Web Works site comes with an informative start-up packet. Packets include a CD-Rom back-up copy of
your Web site, a thorough project summary, tip sheets about promoting your site, and more.
